PODS system only knows ZIP Codes not where the ZIP Codes are located - PODS DELIVERY AND CUSTOMER SERVICE


My son was moving from Charlotte NC to Knoxville TN. I am retired so I thought I would help out and get him options on moving. I went online to set up a quote to move from Charlotte to Knoxville. You have to enter ZIP codes, so not knowing the ZIP codes in Knoxville, I googled and got a Knoxville ZIP code. However, since I have been typing Nashville ZIP Codes all my life, I accidently keyed in a wrong third digit and it was a Nashville ZIP Code. However, the quote you get back from PODS does not have cities listed just ZIP Codes, so you do not notice the error. The price was more than 3 times what U-Haul was so I did not think my son would choose PODS. However, since he would need about 3 weeks of storage he choose PODS. He called to call center to place the order. He gave them the Quote # from where I have requested the quote. That was the mistake, because even thought he said he was moving from Charlotte to Knoxville, the call center rep did not catch the mistaken ZIP Code. The order confirmation email you get from PODs only lists the pickup location not the destination. About a week later, you get an email listing where the POD will be delivered for storage. This email listed Nashville. My son called PODs call center to question the accuracy of the order. Specifically asked why does the email say the POD is being delivered to Nashville when I am moving to Knoxville. The call center rep said that is the closest storage location to the designated ZIP Code. My son asked so Nashville is the closest storage location for people moving to Knoxville which is over 200 miles away? The rep ask my son to verify the correct ZIP code, since he had not had time to visit Knoxville to look for a place to live yet, he did not know what a correct Knoxville Zip Code was. So he said, I guess that Zip code is correct as long as it is a Knoxville ZiP Code. Well after he found an apartment and called to have the POD delivered to the Apartment Address the Call Center rep said that the address was not in the delivery zone and my son would have to go to the POD storage center to unload there. This rep had no idea that the POD Storage Center was 200 miles away in Nashville. So after several calls, finally determined that Nashville was not the closest storage area, just that the ZIP Code on the order was Nashville not Knoxville. PODS wanted another $1100 to ship POD to Knoxville. After filling a compliant in PODS compliant department, they said it was not their fault since my son verified the ZIP Code, even though he said "sure as long as it is a Knoxville Zip Code"

Rented a U-Haul trailer and moved the contents from the PODS storage center in Nashville to Knoxville.

When you move to a new city you do not know the new ZIP codes, so when all the PODs communications only list Zip Codes you do not immediately recognize that the ZIP Code is incorrect. PODS customer service is so inept that they do not know either.
